Beyond the Tech: Bridging the Gap Between AI Innovation and Cybersecurity

In any large organization, whether in government or the private sector, adopting AI is rarely a simple walk in the park. The rapid pace of change introduces very real and ongoing challenges, particularly for cybersecurity teams. A constant tension emerges: how do we protect the organization without slowing down the integration of powerful new technologies?

Many immediately look for a technical fix—a more efficient CI/CD pipeline or a shiny new platform. But while technology is a critical component, the most effective solution I’ve found is far more fundamental.

It’s communication. This became incredibly clear during a recent Value Stream Mapping workshop I participated in with our infrastructure and cybersecurity teams. We had the opportunity to sit down together, see eye-to-eye, and truly understand each other’s needs, goals, and perspectives.

Through open discussion, debate, and even a few laughs, we realized we weren't on opposing sides. Instead, it became crystal clear that we all share a deep commitment to the same mission: moving the organization forward with AI and innovation, while keeping it secure. When technical friction arises, fostering human connection is often the most powerful way to resolve it.
