Balancing Innovation and Responsibility in the AI Era

A recent post from Gal Moshkovitz caught my eye. He demonstrated how one could bypass the security protections of a Cloud Desktop, a powerful reminder of the new challenges and “worries” that accompany new technologies. I find posts like this invaluable, as they ground our enthusiasm for progress in the essential principle of cautious innovation.

A significant part of my day is dedicated to pushing the public sector forward in adopting new technologies to improve services and streamline processes. In parallel, I always consult with and rely on professionals who remind us of our profound responsibility to protect critical systems, secure our collective data, and build systems that are fair and safe for public use.

This balance is especially crucial when it comes to AI. Everyone involved in the field, from seasoned leaders to new users, must find the equilibrium between adopting powerful new tools and upholding the principles of information security, cybersecurity, and responsible AI.

I am hopeful that we will soon establish a formal framework that allows the public sector to experiment with new technologies within a secure envelope—one that effectively balances risk mitigation with the drive for innovation. This work doesn't happen in a vacuum, and I'm continually inspired by others in the field, such as Cedric Yehuda Zava, who recently shared his work on responsible AI, and the important efforts at the Israel National Digital Agency, led by Gal Tamir.
