AI Won't Replace You, It Will Refocus You

A recurring question in our field is whether AI will take your job. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang recently offered a crucial distinction: AI replaces tasks, not jobs. He cited the example of radiologists. While many predicted computer vision would make them obsolete, the opposite occurred. The technology took over repetitive image scanning, freeing radiologists to focus on complex diagnosis and patient outcomes. Today, there are more of them, not fewer.

I saw this dynamic play out firsthand. While leading the technology for Timna, the Israeli Ministry of Health’s AI research platform, I often encountered the assumption that advanced models would make certain medical professions redundant. The reality was far more constructive.

For instance, in a project with the National Cancer Registry, I worked closely with highly-educated registrars whose time was consumed by manual labor. They had to review roughly 100,000 forms each year to filter and enter data. We developed a classification algorithm that automated the vast majority of this work.

The algorithm didn’t replace the experts; it removed their primary bottleneck. Freed from tedious manual review, they could finally dedicate their time to what truly required their expertise: analysis, research, and generating impactful insights for the healthcare system. AI doesn't eliminate expertise, it shifts it to where it matters most. The real question is not whether your job is at risk, but which tasks can be automated so you can focus on creating real value.
